In Germany Aldi Süd launched in November a couscous seasoning mix, the Schätze des Orients Couscous Gewürzmischung – for traditional North African couscous dishes. The product, that also targets convenience, retails at €1.49 and is designed to be used with lamb, chickpeas, onions and garlic, and is sold in a 40g pack.
Ingredients include: Cumin Seed, Chili Pepper, Coriander, Onion, Garlic, Anise Star, Oregano, Mustard Seeds (Seed), Thyme.
In a second November launch, Aldi Süd in Germany continues the diversification of its spice offer with flavours from more specific regions. Their Schätze des Orients Arabisches Orangengewürz (Arabian Orange Seasoning Mix) is a fine, mild and fruity mix. The product claims to be ideal for rice, carrots, pumpkin, onions, fish and light poultry meat, and retails in a 40g pack for €1.49.

Clearly targeting a combination of convenience and Christmas, in October UK retailer Marks & Spencer launched the M&S House Blend Christmas Spices, available for Christmas 2014. A blend of sugar and ground spices with flavourings, the product is to be mixed with honey and then used as a glaze for the traditional British meat preparation gammon. It retails in a 55g recyclable pack for €3.03.
